The holidays are the perfect time to welcome family, friends and coworkers into your home. However, throwing a holiday party often comes with hurdles. To ensure your night to go off without a hitch, make sure you avoid these common mistakes….
Mistake #1 – Inviting Everyone
It may be tempting to invite all of your family, friends and co-workers to your party. However, more people does not necessarily mean more fun. This common mistake will have you stressed out trying to create one event that will be enjoyable for everyone.
Mistake #2 – Sending Invitations Out Late
Holiday weekends tend to book up quickly for most people. Therefore, in order to increase the likelihood that people will be able to attend your party, we suggest sending your invites out at least one month in advance. Keyword: AT LEAST. Plus, whether you’re sending invites via traditional or electronic mail, make sure you double, even triple-check the invite details for accuracy.
Mistake #3 – Having Guests Unsure of What to Wear
Whether it’s cocktail attire or an ugly sweater, make it clear on the invite as to what you would like guests to wear and encourage everyone to participate. Plus, if you’re throwing a themed party, offer some ideas of clothing that fits that theme so invitees aren’t left in the dark.
Mistake #4 – Running Out of Supplies
There’s nothing worse than running out of food and drinks at a party. Avoid this by stocking up on more than you think you’ll actually need. In addition, make it clear on the invite whether or not guests need to bring their own alcohol.
Mistake #5 – Providing Little to No Entertainment
As the host, it’s your job to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and welcome. Mingling can only go so far before guests start looking for something to do. Having planned activities/games is always a great way to keep guests entertained and the party going into the night.
Mistake #6 – Playing Boring Music
Don’t bore guests to tears with just playing classical holiday songs. Your guests have most likely heard them a billion times so far this year. We suggest spicing your night up with some contemporary/non-traditional holiday songs. Just remember to turn the music on before your guests arrive.
